Voice Care for Teachers

Picture
Vocal Health + Voice Acting Skills = Efficient and Effective Teaching
Save your VOICE... Save your CAREER!
Whether you have been teaching for 1 year or 1 decade, there is only one thing you cannot teach without – your VOICE. If you have experienced hoarseness, throat pain, or worse, loss of voice at some point in your career, you have a chance to put a stop to it NOW!

The Teacher’s Voice

Let’s look at some numbers for a moment. Did you know that as a teacher…
  • You use your voice 15-40% of the time during each working day? This includes classroom teaching, faculty meetings, and even chit-chat with students, fellow teachers and other colleagues.
  • Your voice needs to be at least 10 decibels greater than the ambient noise in order for you to be heard? A noisy classroom averages 60-80 decibels, and 80 decibels is equivalent to the noise produced by a household vacuum cleaner.
  • You are 3-5 times more likely to experience voice problems than the general population…
  • And a whopping 32 times more likely to report voice problems than other occupations?

The good news is, 75% of voice problems can be self-managed with proper knowledge and training.

While teachers make up the largest population of professional voice users, sadly, unlike actors or singers, they get very little to no VOICE TRAINING.

Voice Care for Teachers Workshop

The greatest teachers are those who remain students of life. In this two-day workshop, teachers get to learn how to care for their most valuable asset.

The workshop is divided into two main sections:

  • Defining and understanding symptoms, causes and risk factors of vocal injuries
  • Warm up and cool down exercises for the voice
  • Understanding and working with various speaking environments
  • Voice Care action planning

SECTION 2 – Voice Acting
  • Defining and understanding the concept of being an “edu-tainer” (educator + entertainer)
  • Storytelling skills, tips and techniques… and why not public speaking
  • How to “play” with the voice using pitch, tempo, etc.
  • The VoiceMaster’s formula to character voices
  • Exercises to explore the range of their voice
  • Application of voice acting skills
